Writer and cultural practitioner working across poetry, criticism, and curatorial practice, with projects spanning museums, galleries, and education contexts.
Creative writing
I write poetry, essays, and creative-critical work that often engages art, history, language and place.
See Writing page for selected publications.
Arts writing
My previous reviews, criticism and editorial work have explored history, literature, and broader cultural criticism.
Examples include editing Culture Makers and long-form review Dreaming Towards Redress.
Public events
I regularly share my creative work and cultural practice through readings, talks, panels and workshops.
Appearances include Footscray West Writers Festival, Writers Victoria State of the (Writing) Nation, Emerging Writers Festival, MuseumNext and more.
Curatorial and museum practice
I have developed exhibition, learning and interpretive projects that are research-driven and artist-led, exploring narrative, audience experience, and storytelling within cultural institutions.
Projects include Threads, a digital stop-motion and object-based exhibition installation, and Culture Makers, a multi-year artist collaboration and public programs across Melbourne Museum and Immigration Museum.
Education
I design and develop curriculum, programs, and resources, and provide research and consulting across museums, arts spaces, and classrooms. As a qualified teacher, I approach education as an extension of my curatorial and artistic practice, and I am especially interested in humanities, arts and creative learning areas.
Institutions I have worked with include Museums Victoria, Teach for Bangladesh, Teach First, Future First, Essential Learning Group China, Debate Mate UK, Skips Educational UK, the Oslo Department of Education, and schools across Australia and the UK.
I welcome collaborations and commissions. Please get in touch via email on gurmsk@protonmail.com or through the Contact page.
